Your Shelby, NC Dentist

We would like to introduce you to the members of our staff, with whom you are entrusting with your dental care. Our staff takes pride in professional development and credentialing.

Dr. Joseph R. Hendrick, Jr. is a graduate of Shelby High School. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, while concurrently completing the Pre-Dental Curriculum. In 1985, he graduated from the UNC School of Dentistry with a Doctorate of Dental Surgery. Dr. Hendrick was awarded the Grover Hunter Award for Clinical and Academic Excellence in Predoctoral Periodontics.

Dr. Hendrick is actively involved in the dental community. He is a member of the American Dental Association, the North Carolina Dental Society, and the Isothermal Dental Society, having served as Treasurer, Vice-President, and President.  He has served on the House of Delegates for numerous years in the North Carolina Dental Society and was recently inducted as President of the North Carolina Dental Society for 2023.  He was a charter member of the Piedmont Dental Forum.  Dr. Hendrick serves locally as Past President for First District in the North Carolina Dental Society and is a member of the North Carolina Dental Society Board of Trustees. Dr. Hendrick has participated in the North Carolina initiative, "Give Kids A Smile" day, where underserved children are given needed dental care. He and Lori contribute to RDH Magazine addressing current issues and trends for dental providers. Dr. Hendrick is involved in church and community activities as well. He has served on the American Cancer Society Board and Advisory Board for the Salvation Army. He also served as a Board Member of First Charter Bank. As a member of the Kiwanis Club of Shelby, he served as Board Member, Officer, and President. In the church, he served as a Church Council Member and a Member of the Church Financial Committee, overhauling and streamlining budgeting processes. Additionally, Dr. Hendrick is co-owner of Athena Dental Solutions, LLC a dental lab and dental CE provider recognized as an AGD/PACE provider.

Dr. Hendrick takes the time to get to know his patients. He believes it is important to get to know the people who are entrusting him with their care. Dr. Hendrick has strong values and a desire to provide optimal care to his patients. He incorporates new technologies in his practice once they have been proven safe and effective. He has a strong desire to educate patients concerning oral health and the direct effect on overall health.

When free time presents, Dr. Hendrick enjoys spending time with family and friends. Other activities and hobbies include sports, cars, entertainment, and traveling. He has a special interest in historic military aircraft, aviation, and classic cars. Additionally, he and Lori teach CE courses for the dental team including Local Anesthetic for North Carolina Dental Hygienists , which satisfies certification requirements for hygienists to administer local anesthesia for pain control during dental procedures.

Lori

Office Manager, Certified Dental Technician, Dental Assistant II, Registered Dental Hygienist, PhDc

Lori joined the office in 2006 fulfilling the role of Office Manager. Lori graduated as an NC Honor Scholar from Burns High School and attended Gardner-Webb University as an Academic Scholar. Lori holds an AAS Degree in Dental Hygiene from Central Piedmont Community College and a Dual Master of Science degrees in Dental Hygiene and Global Health from Old Dominion University (ODU) . She is currently pursuing a PhD in Public Administration and Health Policy from ODU. Other credentials are Certified Dental Lab Technician, with over 28 years of experience in Dental Lab Technology and CDA with over ten years of experience chairside assisting.

After having worked on the legislation for dental hygienists to provide local anesthetic,  Lori recently, became the first dental hygienist in NC to be licensed to provide local anesthetic. Our office is currently the only office in Shelby, NC with a dental tech on staff to assist with shades, contour changes, and other restorative concerns.  She is very knowledgeable in dental care, treatment planning, restorative materials, and navigating the insurance world. In addition to her chairside experience, Lori owns and operates her own dental lab and consulting business - Athena Dental Solutions, LLC . Lori resides in Shelby with her family and mischievous Siberian Huskey - Loki.  When not treating patients, Lori enjoys spending time with her family, traveling, restoring antique autos with her son, and flying in historic military aircraft. Additionally, she and Dr. Hendrick developed and teach CE courses for the dental team including Local Anesthetic Administration Certification for Dental Hygienists in North Carolina.

Linda

Patient Care Coordinator

Linda joined the office in 2001 as a Patient Care Coordinator.  She works directly with patients explaining dental treatments and scheduling appointments.  Linda also works to help our patients maximize their dental insurance benefits.  She is one of the first contacts you make when calling our office and will work diligently to aid you in making your appointment, and explaining your financial obligations.  Linda and her husband reside in Shelby, NC.

Traci

Patient Care Coordinator

Traci joined the office in 2021as a Patient Care Coordinator.  Traci works with patients schdeuling appointments, confirming insurance benefits, and treatment planning. She works to help our patients maximize dental benefits, and maintain current recall schedules.  She is one of the first contacts you make when calling our office.  Traci resides in Shelby, NC.

Angie

Registered Dental Hygienist

Angie joined the office in 1998 as a Registered Dental Hygienist.  Angie is a graduate of Crest High School and Central Piedmont Dental Hygiene Program. She is directly involved in patient education, patient screening, assessment of oral health conditions, reviews oral health history, processes digital radiographs, removes plaque and calculus from all surfaces of teeth and counsels patients on oral hygiene, nutrition and it impacts on oral health.  Angie and her family reside in Boiling Springs, NC.  When she is not treating patients, Angie enjoys spending time with her husband and children.

Amber M

Registered Dental Hygienist

Amber joined our practice in 2018 as a Registered Dental Hygienist. Amber is a graduate of Greenville Tech Dental Hygiene Program. Providing hygiene therapies includes patient education, screening for oral healthcare diseases as well as overall health assessments, gathering medical histories, processing radiographs, removing plaque and calculus from the surfaces of the teeth and counseling patients on oral hygiene and nutrition. When Amber is not working providing optional oral care to her patients, she enjoys spending time with her husband and children.

Amber T

Registered Dental Hygienist

Amber joined our practice in 2014 serving as a Registered Dental Hygienist. Amber is a graduate of York Tech Dental Hygiene Program. She provides outstanding care to her patients, taking the time to discuss their oral health care needs as well as explaining the connection oral health has to overall health. Amber provides oral health care education and nutritional counseling when needed.  When she is not working helping patient achieve optimal oral health, she enjoys spending time with her husband and son.

Roxanne

Dental Assistant II

Roxanne joined our practice in 2016 as we merged with the office of Dr. A. Neal Spangler upon his retirement.  Roxanne is a graduate of the Dental Assisting Program at Central Piedmont Community College.  She is knowledgeable in all aspects of restorative, general, and cosmetic procedures.  Roxanne is involved in patient care assisting Dr. Hendrick, applying sealants, exposing dental radiographs, and explaining procedures and treatment plans to patients.  When not in the office, Roxanne enjoys spending time with her husband, son, and grandchildren.  She and her family reside in Kings Mountain, NC.
